What is Aeroponics?

Many people have heard of hydroponics and aquaponics, in which plants are grown in some type of medium and nutrients are delivered via water based solution. Aeroponics has emerged in the last decade as a solution that uses no medium (the roots simply dangle in the air) and has minimal water requirements as nutrients are delivered via misting in an enclosed space. Modern Farmer has an excellent article that explains the technology in layman’s terms and they note that naked roots thrive; when eliminating growing medium, plants grow faster.

As you might imagine, production can be accomplished on a small footprint, in diverse climates, that allows a dependable food supply without disruption due to environmental changes, weather events, pestilence, or supply chain failures.

Climate Change and Food Systems

Climate change is already impacting the future of food.  The last two years we’ve watched the west coast of the United States burn while hurricanes destroy crops all along the southern and eastern seaboard. We are living in a time of volatility unknown in modern times and need new ways to ensure local sustainable food supplies. This is true of cities and nations all around the globe.

Relying on emerging technologies like aeroponics and energy efficient LEDs, vertical farms can be installed in creative spots like existing buildings, basements or shipping containers, and provide a unique opportunity to rethink how we meet one of the most fundamental human needs.

Imagine this, you raise funds locally for the initial investment in this opportunity and HQ provides the infrastructure and the resources you need to be successful. Choose from a variety of packages that provide the hardware and software that’s right for your vision, with both purchase or lease options. Food and the Rise and Fall of Civilizations

Throughout history, civilizations have thrived in regions with abundant resources. Healthy soil, fresh water and temperate climates led to cultures like ancient Egypt, the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans, Navajo, and even Rome. When the climate changed, the civilizations fell and today we see only the crumbling remains of what were once great civilizations.

Today, our world is filled with production specializations and fragile supply chains and I wonder, is this sustainable or are we due to experience the same outcomes as those once great civilizations? Can we learn from our shared histories and create a different outcome?
